In December 2006 was signed the agreement between Greater Vancouver Transportation and the City of Port Coquitlam, regarding the Coast Meridian Overpass Project. Two years later, a final agreement was found with SNC Lavalin Constructors Pacific who has been chosen to design and build this third North-South link across the Canadian Pacific Railway yards.

The City of Port Coquitlam and TransLink are sharing the costs for this large project, with the participation of the Province of British Colombia and ICBC.

Last Month, on March 7th, the Coast Meridian Overpass officially opened to traffic. For sure this new link will improve the access to the city and throughout the region. Also it will have an significant environmental effect, knowing that the congestion on Lougheed Highway will be reduced as much as the air pollution from cars and other vehicles in the area.

The day before the unofficial Coast Meridian Overpass opening ceremony took place on the bridge with street hockey games, a parade, music, food, and, obviously, a cutting-ribbon ceremony.
